Futbol with Latino flair

One World Futbol is partnering with A Ganar, the flagship sport for development program of Partners of the Americas, a people-to-people program inspired by President John F. Kennedy and established in 1964.

In January, One World Futbol donated 24 balls for A Ganar — Vencer in Brazil, meaning “to win” or “to earn” — to use in its programs in Haiti and the Caribbean, the first small step in developing a robust partnership with one of the most outstanding nongovernmental development efforts in Latin America.

The A Ganar Alliance, A Ganar’s workforce development program, uses soccer and other team sports to equip youth with skills that prepare them for employment in today’s globalized economy. Engaging Latin American and Caribbean youth, ages 16-24, in soccer and other team sports, A Ganar helps them learn entrepreneurial skills, find jobs, or re-enter the formal education system.

Youth unemployment is one of Latin America’s most visible and intractable problems, which A Ganar combats with a four-phase integrated job training program in which youth transform lessons and intellectual skills, developed through soccer, into marketable job skills.
